Phot's By Michael Holm

Image
Greetings all Michael and his wife Karin have been here the last week, diving and relaxing. Yesterday me and Michael sat down in front of the office computer and narrowed down 800+ photo's to some 169 usable. Michael then had the task of wittling down the photo's some more till we had 8 to chose from. Of which the final 5 were photoshop'd and put up here for all to see. Enjoy. Ornate Ghost Pipefish, Very Colourful. A Mantis Shrimp awaiting some prey. Not to close with that camera Michael or he'll have it. Love this one, the green shrimp on the feather star. Nice image. A Cuttlefish using sponge as camoflage. Another more colourful Mantis shrimp, so many varieties to photograph. And Up here in still sunny NW Bali, despite the best efforts of the rainy season, we have so many to find. Thanks Michael for sharing and I look forward to perhaps getting out diving with you an Karin next year. The Captain

Brethren Harrie Wassen Photos

Image
More photo's from the brethren. This time from Harrie & Reit Wassen who were here over November. This nicely illuminated Ornate Ghost Pipefish enjoying the night dive. Whats left at Anchor wreck, Menjangan Island. A very colourful scene of coral and somewhere in there is an octopus. Transparent Cleanie shrimp on an anemone. Really nice picture of an Octopus taking a respite next to a plastic bag in Mucky Pirates Bay. Thanks for the photo's Harrie The Captain

Lee, phyllis & Gary's, Secret Bay Memories

Image
The Sea Rovers Brethren's ranks continue to swell with the addition of Lee, Phyllis and Gary our American affiliates. Below are just a small taste of some of the many, many underwater photograph that Lee took during their time here. This time I chose some of his Secret Bay photo's as I liked them the best. First a Self Portrait of the Photographer himself Mr Lee resplendent with his HydroOptics mask. Very dashing Mr Lee. Nice little Gobby takes a ride on a passing starfish. Probably be faster to swim, but hey, who's in a hurry. This is Bali after all. Yellow frogfish striking a dramatic pose. Often seen at Secret Bay and nicely photoed by Mr Lee. A folded nudibranch. Amazing what you can accomplish with origami and some sea lettuce. This Cuttlefish seems to have crash-landed in the sand, must have mucked up his landing. Aye Eye Mr Lee! Cool Catfish finish off this collection of interesting images from Lee. We look forward to seeing many more on your next trip out. By the w...

Dan The Photoman

Image
Yet another photographically inclined member of our ever expanding Sea Rovers Brethren has left us some memories to post. Decorator crabs are always weird things, but here in Sea Rovers own 'Mucky Pirates Bay' we do extra wierd. This, one of many, uses one of our resident upside down jellyfish as a cunning disguise. Puffer Fish and friend A friendly little Octopus on one of Dan's night dives provided a nice pose. This Octopus decided to stretch out and go for a wonder. Lionfish gliding in amongst the corals, nice warm colours on this one. Hermit crab with accompanying anenomes. And finally looking from stern to bows, 'Canyon Wreck' shows us her Booty :-) Nice Photo's Dan, look forward to seeing more on your next trip out. The Captain

The Freeflow divers return.

Image
Fellow Sea Rovers brethren Gwen & John from the Freeflow divers in Singapore return with new recruits and new friends, Terry & Helen. Helen Just completed her confined training and open water dives for her SDI, Open Water Scuba Diver certification having done her theory online prior to coming out. Left to right, John & Gwen Gillies, Terry & Helen Benton enjoying some well earned apre dive 'Storm Beer'. Also a celebration for Terry's Birthday. Sunset set the scene for the whole affair, all in all a fun time was had. And then Captain, family and friends enjoying a pleasant evening at Warung Susu, just down the road. Well its not all fish and critters you know, we do have a life between dives ;-) The Captain

Hella & Wayan's New Scorpionfish?

Image
Have we discovered a new species? Who knows and who cares? All we know is that our Wayan who has been diving here like myself for the last 13 years has never seen one like this. Old friend Hella Binder was visiting and fortunately had her camera with her so we got a couple of very cool shots to post on the blog. Picture was taken out at the Coral Bommie, here in Pemuteran. Nicely spotted guys. See what you get when you dive with the Sea Rovers brethren :-) How about calling it "Hella & Wayan's Flamboyant Dreadlocks Scorpionfish" The Captain

Yvonne's First Seahorse

Shark infested diver silliness

Image
Our little Mamiko, already three trips out in the space of a year and planning more. These are her photos and this time I decided to add some silliness to the equation with just a dash of shark to excite the mix. Enjoy Mamiko getting ready for the off at Menjangan Island, with the assistance of Captain Botac Dive! Dive! Dive! as Mamiko drops into the blue. Shark! Shark! Shark! Three white tip reef sharks off Menjangan Island. Are you Scared? Well you shouldn't be. Your on a Sea Rovers dive :-) Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! Ready for my close up Mamiko. Kiss! Snog! Smooch! Hans & Corrie putting the Blue in deep blue sea. Avast ye Mister Hans your a Nutter! And thus ends our Sharks and Silly moments. Thank you for diving Sea Rovers and please don't unfasten your belts till the current has come to a complete stop. Your Captain

Fare thee well to Trainees

Image
Commodore Kerry made it over for a few week in September and October, Just in time to say farewell to our trainees. Three months hard labour aboard the good divebase Sea Rovers, Pemuteran. Slainte Mhath fellow Brethren Reception Wench and Kommissaris Ditta Presents Mr Putu Epot Budi Arsana with his certificate Yours truly, Captain Paul presenting Mr Putu Mangku with his Certificate. And last but by no means least our Commodore Kerry presents Mr Kadek Karsana with his certificate We wish them well and success in their future careers, whatever they may be and who knows, as we expand perhaps you'll see one of these faces again as our next Captain or Divemaster. Good Luck Lads The Captain

Me Etec be a might finicky

Image
Engine problems with the Vicious Guppy brought a full contingent of professionals to Sea Rovers. First we complain to the dealer, then the dealer to the distributor, then the distributor to the regional offices. Then with enough complaints everybody comes to visit and help sort out the problem. Left to right, Pak Henry (Daya Pioneer, Jakarta), Pak Tony (Bali Mercury, Bali), Yours Truly Captain Paul M Turley and me Partner Commodore Kerry Keene visiting from Oz, Pak John Koh (Evinrude, Regional Office, Singapore) The Commodore looking slightly contemplative as the engines are put through their paces with the diagnostic software. She may be a might poorly but she'll survive to run many more dive trips to come. And though she be fibreglass, she has the mighty oaken heart of pirate ships of yore. Garr! Shiver me fibre! The Captain

Pic of the Morning

Image
Woke up and started the day with a dive and a photo. A couple of very accommodating Ornate Ghost Pipefish under the jetty in "Mucky Pirates Bay" Not a bad way to start your day. The Captain

What can we do with snow and Photoshop

Image
Couple of new pics of yours truly and German lake diving in the snow. Sent by another of our Piratical Brethren, Peter Bronold. Before Photoshop After Photoshop German style, Brrr.... looks cold to me, think I'll stick to Bali Diving Thanks for the photo's Peter. Looking forward to seeing the rest, but remember 800x600 72px is the best for emailing to me. Ciao Captain Paul

Playing with Photoshop CS 3 and MPB pics

Image
The latest Mucky Pirates Bay photos. Been playing with Photoshop for this first one, getting an interesting sort of woodblock effect. Using the cutout feature and then a second layer high pass with threshold adjustment, you get this nice art print. Mantis shrimp playing peak a boo. That green algae behind him is all over the Mucky Pirates Bay at the moment, brought with it a couple of very interesting nudibranch though, which typically I only ever find when I don't have the camera with me :-( I like this pic! A very nice young lionfish Filefish hanging by one of our moorings. The Captain
