Going Solo (diving that is :-)

Image
Just Me, My Camera and I The Captains going Solo. Who's not with me? Seriously though we'll be offering the chance to break free from the shackles of buddydom. How many times have you been on a dive trip and been given a buddy who is more of a liability than a buddy? How many times have you taken your camera out and wished you didn't have a buddy with you? Or been with a Photographer and had to hang around waiting for them to take the shot. The SDI Solo Diving course is about learning to be independent as much as its about diving on your own. There are many situations where having a buddy along just doesn't always work. What happens if you loose your buddy, are you prepared to take care of yourself? This is where the SDI Solo Diving course comes into its own (forgive the pun). Lets face it at one point or another, you will be diving alone, whether you want to or not. Those interested in learning more can Start Here where you can find more info...

What they are saying on the Lonely Planet

taricha Jul 14, 2011 7:01 PM Posts: 26   Diving from Pemueran, Bali - expressing thanks This post comes to thank kilo_fox and DiveNow for their help when I posted a question with whom to dive from Pemuteran. Both recommended Sea Rovers - and I am thankful to them both. The dive centre is remarkable for top equipment, efficiency, friendliness and helpfulness. The dive guides are excellent, small groups and efficient boats. And, needless to say, safety is paramount. They are not mentioned in the current Bali Lonely Planet edition. I would highly recomment them. The Adi Assri resort is also recommended as a relaxing place in a beautiful gardens.   DiveNow Mar 7, 2011 11:13 AM Posts: 27 Sea Rovers was very good, try them. The Adi Assri resort was also a great and relaxing place to stay. If you like macro diving at all, you should consider diving Secret Bay also to look for seahorses, frogfish, banggai cardinalfish, pipefish and more.   kilo_fox Feb 24, 20...

The Underwater Temple Garden, Bali

Image
The Photo that started it all And here is the original story. Indonesian Archeologists to investigate potentially phenomenal discovery Apparently someone took my photo, posted it on twitter and claimed an archeological discovery off the coast of Bali. This went global, thanks to the internet and thus a urban legend was born. :-) the follow up story helped to clear up the matter but some journalists still got it wrong. Mystery of underwater hindu temple in bali solved Its funny, so far I have been interviewed by the BBC, Daily Telegraph, Metro TV, amongst others. Oh and a couple of hundred strangers now want to be my friend on facebook. Cancel funny lets say crazy. But still I find it amazing that one photo can bring so much attention to our little corner of the world. However I feel that I have to set some facts straight. I didn't build this for Sea Rovers guests! Though I have been in Pemuteran for 14 years now and was involved in the creation of the Reef Gardeners, I can't la...

Once again the dread Captain Slackbeard strikes as I catch up with the Brethrens photo's. Night diving 'Mucky Pirates Bay' this time. Carefully does it lads thats a hoard of razorfish. One false move and there'll have ya all mincemeat like in a flash. Oh No, they spotted us! Swim away, swim away...AAAAAaaaaaggh! Have they gone? Good. And here is another frogfish. A face only a mother could love. A full winged lionfish giving us the classic fish tail shot. Pretty wings though. And finally a really nice Nudibranch. And thus endeth another nice lot of images from the brethren. The Captain

Nasty Nemo Powers Up

Image
Happy Captain examines his baby's new engines. Twin Evinrude 115hp Etec all white and shiny. "Lets hope they run as good as they look." says I. Garr! They be mighty fine machines for a chasing down enemy vessels. "Bloody hell! That things got more power than my *Chicken Killer. " (*translation: Indonesian Scooter or Speda motor) Almost ready to launch. Bugger! But this things heavy. I'll just stand here, scratch my head and supervise. Left a bit. Right abit. Now lift..... There she goes. Boy watching you guys is making me tired. A few more tweaks and a slight delay for a miss sent but vital part.... And she'll be in the water and doing sea trials. The Captain

Phot's By Michael Holm

Image
Greetings all Michael and his wife Karin have been here the last week, diving and relaxing. Yesterday me and Michael sat down in front of the office computer and narrowed down 800+ photo's to some 169 usable. Michael then had the task of wittling down the photo's some more till we had 8 to chose from. Of which the final 5 were photoshop'd and put up here for all to see. Enjoy. Ornate Ghost Pipefish, Very Colourful. A Mantis Shrimp awaiting some prey. Not to close with that camera Michael or he'll have it. Love this one, the green shrimp on the feather star. Nice image. A Cuttlefish using sponge as camoflage. Another more colourful Mantis shrimp, so many varieties to photograph. And Up here in still sunny NW Bali, despite the best efforts of the rainy season, we have so many to find. Thanks Michael for sharing and I look forward to perhaps getting out diving with you an Karin next year. The Captain

Brethren Harrie Wassen Photos

Image
More photo's from the brethren. This time from Harrie & Reit Wassen who were here over November. This nicely illuminated Ornate Ghost Pipefish enjoying the night dive. Whats left at Anchor wreck, Menjangan Island. A very colourful scene of coral and somewhere in there is an octopus. Transparent Cleanie shrimp on an anemone. Really nice picture of an Octopus taking a respite next to a plastic bag in Mucky Pirates Bay. Thanks for the photo's Harrie The Captain

Dan The Photoman

Yet another photographically inclined member of our ever expanding Sea Rovers Brethren has left us some memories to post. Decorator crabs are always weird things, but here in Sea Rovers own 'Mucky Pirates Bay' we do extra wierd. This, one of many, uses one of our resident upside down jellyfish as a cunning disguise. Puffer Fish and friend A friendly little Octopus on one of Dan's night dives provided a nice pose. This Octopus decided to stretch out and go for a wonder. Lionfish gliding in amongst the corals, nice warm colours on this one. Hermit crab with accompanying anenomes. And finally looking from stern to bows, 'Canyon Wreck' shows us her Booty :-) Nice Photo's Dan, look forward to seeing more on your next trip out. The Captain
